Welcome to Kreative Menagerie
In 2017 a dream and a quilt changed my life and created what you see today.
I am an artist, a wife, a mom, a grandma, a great grandma, the crazy goat lady and an animal lover.
I was born in Wisconsin (GO PACK GO) and have been living in Western Oklahoma with my wonderful husband Mike for almost 20 years. Believe it or not I grew up as the kid who refused to try any sort of craft or sewing much to the frustration of my very talented mother. My world was changed one day when I was introduced to quilting by an elderly lady who spent an afternoon happily showing me everything she had made by hand. I was inspired and taught myself to quilt, a few years later I was having knee surgery and when I woke up from the anesthesia, I looked at my Husband and told him I had a dream about my latest quilt… a blue and white hunters star pattern… I had to learn how to make that pattern into stained glass! I dove right in and taught myself how to do stained glass, after a few months my windows were full, I couldn’t give anymore to my friends and family so I thought I would try to sell some of it to pay for the hobby, and Kreative Menagerie was born.
Stained glass is a passion that I truly enjoy. I was blessed enough to win the Oklahoma State Fair-stained glass competition two years running, those blue ribbons I treasure because I never thought I was good enough to even enter the fair let alone win it. My next craft was painting, I love working with pour acrylic painting and resin art. Then I discovered Wood and got my first laser… a whole new world opened, and we expanded again into the world of custom art and wood creations. During this process I learned to do graphic design work, mainly because I knew what I wanted but couldn’t find anyone who had the files… so I learned how to create what I had in my mind.
Since we, and I do say we because I couldn’t ever have done this without my friends and family supporting me every step of the way. Since we started this adventure, I have set up shoppes at everything from small town 4th of July events to local craft fairs, larger scale events including Affair of the Heart and SoonerCon, this past year hit another milestone by being accepted as a vendor at one of the Oklahoma State Fairs!
I get asked a lot what the meaning of our name is… Creative Menagerie means a collection of oddities. My version of Kreative Menagerie is a way for me to share my collection of hobbies and arts with all of you. My logo is the Bee, this is in honor of my family and my grandma Bea. She represented the support I received over the years and the acceptance of my work, even at the times it shouldn’t have gotten the praise… got to love Grandma’s and unconditional love.
I am excited to see where the future takes us, thank you to everyone for joining me on this path and helping to support my dreams and make them a reality.
Hugs, best wishes, and always remember to Bea Kind, Bea Inspired, Bea Kreative
Kristi
